(Rachel 이 Barry 에게 전화 중이다)
Rachel: Barry, 내 잘못때문에 사과하려고 전화했어.

발음법칙

(1) I'm calling to apologize for my fault.

ㅇ 이 아닌 ㄴ 으로 발음한다.

 

(2) This is all about what I said the other day.

the 와 충돌하기 때문에 d 생략. 

 

회화패턴

I'm calling to : ~하려고 전화했어

  • 현재진행형이지만 과거의 의미가 되는 표현

약속 잡으려고 전화했어: I'm calling to make an appointment / have an appointment

I'm calling to make a reservation.

 

스케쥴 취소하려고 전화했어 : I'm calling to cancel my schedule.

I'm calling to change my schedule.

I'm calling to check my schedule.

 

스케쥴을 짜다 : make out my schedule.

I'm calling to make out my schedule.

 

비행기표를 확인하다: confirm my flight ticket

I'm calling to confirm my flight ticket.

 

I'm calling to say goodbye. : 작별인사 하려고 전화했어.

I'm calling to say hello : 잘 지내는지 안부인사 하려고 전화했어.

 

부탁하려고 전화했어: I'm calling to ask your favor.

 

Scene 12 : I'm trying to

(Monica's Room, Rachel and Monica are talking in the morning)
Rachel: So..you guys all have jobs?
Monica: Yeah, we all have jobs. That's how we buy stuff. So.. how are you doing today? Did you sleep okay? I can't stop smiling.
Rachel: I can see that. You look like you slept with a hanger in your mouth.
Monica; I know!
Rachel: Want a wedding dress? Hardly used.
Monica: Thanks. But I'm just gonna get up go to work.
Rachel: Oh look look! Wish me luck!
Monica: What for?
Rachel: I'm trying to find my job.


(Monica's Room, Rachel and Monica are talking in the morning)
Rachel: 그래서... 너네는 다 직업이 있는거야?
Monica: 맞아 우리 모두 직업이 있어. 그러니까 우리가 그렇게 물건을 사지 않겠어? 오늘은 좀 어때? 잘 잤어? (그 남자만 생각하면) 웃음이 멈추질 않네.
Rachel: 나도 알겠어. 너 마치 옷걸이를 입 속에 걸어두고 잔 것 같아.
Monica; 나도 알아!
Rachel: 웨딩드레스 빌료줄까? 거의 안 썼는데.
Monica: 고마워. 그치만 난 일어나서 일하러 가야겠어.
Rachel: 어 있잖아! 나 행운 좀 빌어줘.
Monica: 뭐때문에?
Rachel: 일자리를 찾아보려고.

    • be used 로 사용할 때 거의 생략해서 사용한다.

    • never: 한번도 하지 않은 것 (아주 강한 부정)
    • hardly: never 보다는 약한 부정

    • because 의 의미로 사용된 for

발음법칙

(1) Can vs Can't

I can't stop smiling.

부정을 얘기할 때 단어 중에서 부정을 나타내는 단어에 강세를 준다. -> 그래서 반 박자 쉬게 된다.

캔이라고 정확하게 발음이 될 경우는 부정이다.

 

I can see that

캔이라고 명확하게 발음이 되지 않음

긍정의 경우 조동사 뒤에 나오는 동사에 강세를 준다
